About Ashray India
ASHRAY – Association for Social Health & Rehabilitative Action by Youth – is a voluntary, non-governmental organisation established on 2nd October 1990 by a dedicated group of trained social workers committed to improving the lives of underprivileged and vulnerable communities.
For more than three decades, ASHRAY has been working towards social development, rehabilitation, education, health and empowerment, with a special focus on children, youth, women and communities living in disadvantaged urban and rural areas.
ASHRAY began with a small group of young, trained social workers who came together with a shared vision of contributing their time, knowledge and professional expertise towards improving social health and rehabilitating people living in difficult circumstances.
Over the years, this vision has grown into a wider social movement involving professionals, social workers, volunteers and community members from different walks of life. Today, ASHRAY continues to work with a dedicated team of professionals and para-professionals to address social challenges at the grassroots level.
Since its inception, ASHRAY has implemented various social welfare and community development initiatives in different parts of Delhi, particularly focusing on children, youth and women.
Our work has included initiatives related to:
- Education and training
- Child development and protection
- Youth empowerment
- Women empowerment
- Social rehabilitation
- Family counselling
- Community development
- Social health and awareness
- Media and social advocacy
- Support for vulnerable and disadvantaged communities
ASHRAY has worked with the support and collaboration of various government departments, institutions and development agencies, including organisations and bodies associated with social justice, child welfare, education, health, environment and community development.
To improve the quality of life of underprivileged, vulnerable and socially disadvantaged communities through education, health, rehabilitation, counselling, skill development, awareness and community-based initiatives.
ASHRAY is committed to empowering children, youth, women and families by creating opportunities for growth, dignity, participation and social inclusion. We work in partnership with communities, professionals, institutions and government agencies to address social challenges at the grassroots level.
To build a just, inclusive and empowered society where every individual—irrespective of their social or economic circumstances—has access to opportunities, dignity, education, health and the ability to live a meaningful life.
We envision communities where children are protected and educated, youth are empowered, women have equal opportunities, families are strengthened, and vulnerable people receive the support they need to become self-reliant.

ASHRAY has been working for the education, training and rehabilitation of neglected, slum and working children in and around areas of West Delhi, including Chaukhandi and Tilak Nagar, with the objective of creating better opportunities for children and families facing social and economic challenges.
The organisation has also been involved in community-based interventions designed to improve access to education, counselling, awareness and rehabilitation services.
ASHRAY has also been involved in providing family counselling and social support services. Through its counselling initiatives, the organisation seeks to help individuals and families understand and address social, emotional and family-related challenges.
These efforts are aimed at strengthening families, promoting healthier communities and supporting individuals in difficult circumstances.
Beyond direct community programmes, ASHRAY actively participates in social advocacy and awareness initiatives concerning important social issues.
The organisation has been associated with national and local-level forums and networks working for the rights and welfare of children, vulnerable communities and disadvantaged groups.
ASHRAY believes that sustainable social change requires cooperation between communities, professionals, voluntary organisations, institutions and government agencies.
